Closing Time!

After what seems like a century, Mark and I will be closing on our house on Thursday, just two days away! However, that certainly doesn't mean that the waiting is over for us. As per the original contract, we'll be giving the sellers extra time to move on and move out. Thus, we won't actually begin moving until the very end of July/beginning of August. That's probably a good thing because we have yet to pack a single box.

The woman who currently lives in the house is a very sweet elderly woman, and the house reflects her older...er...tastes: wallpaper and borders everywhere, blue and mauve carpeting, and generally outdated fixtures, appliances, everything. There is even a 2.5ft statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking the pool (Our Lady of the Blessed Chlorine, Our Lady of the Immaculate Belly Flop, Our Lady of the Holy Water Wings--I haven't quite come up with a favorite yet.) Regardless, the end result is: we have work to do. I plan on taking lots of pictures of every room so that we can track our progress along our DIY way. It's going to be fun.

  1. I'm so happy for you guys. It's a huge step. Barney & I haven't taken this step yet. We hope to buy something that we CAN work on, put our original touch onto, and leave NO WHITE WALL!!! =) I can't wait to see pics & watch your journey along the way....

  2. Beth and Mark, I am sooooo excited about the house and your blog! What a fantastic idea! I sincerely hope that, in time, you will find a nice space in the back yard to build a small grotto for Mother Mary. Mom would love to have had such. I really feel that she led you two to Queen's Lane and the original Van Scoter stomping grounds. Lots of memories there. Will await progress reports with baited breath! Jeanie
